Why Dr. Applebaum?
Patient care, trust and your satisfaction with good outcomes are my upmost concern.
Gynecomastia, or excessive male breast tissue, can make even the most confident many feel self conscious or uncomfortable while shirtless. Although the condition is quite common, many men avoid situations in which they want to wear a fitted t-shirt or they need to be shirtless because of embarrassment about their physique. Gynecomastia most commonly occurs as a result of hormone changes, and while it isn’t dangerous, it can cause self consciousness and anxiety in situations that require the patient to wear form-fitting clothes or go shirtless, such as at the beach or in the bedroom. Men with gynecomastia often have excess fat localized in the breasts, excess glandular tissue development, and/or excess breast skin in one or both breasts. No matter what the cause of your gynecomastia, Dr. Applebaum can help you find your confidence and improve your physique with male breast reduction surgery.
Male breast reduction surgery performed by Dr. Applebaum helps to minimize the appearance of excessive breast tissue. Dr. Applebaum uses his decades of experience performing breast surgery to make an incision around the nipple, which allows him to surgically remove excess fat, glandular tissue and/or skin from one or both breasts. Next, Dr. Applebaum typically uses liposuction to contour the chest and restore a more masculine profile. Men who have experienced severe gynecomastia may also need modifications of the nipple, as the extra breast tissue can cause the breasts to sag and stretch the areola, or darker skin around the nipple. In these situations, Dr. Applebaum can surgically improve the position and size of the areola, resulting in an upper body with better proportions and a more masculine contour.
